Everything Is Fiction
Everything is Fiction is a collection of essays written over the course of twenty-five years by author Vicente Garcia Groyon. In this selection that reads like part memoir and part journal, he talks about the different factors that impact and influence his relationship to writing. He discusses matters like what it means to be a Filipino writer and why he thinks this is an important perspective to consider in writing. Groyon looks back on certain moments in his life, such as his time at the University of Iowa’s International Writers Workshop where significant realizations led him toward deeper introspections with regards to the world beyond writing. In these musings, he is able to pinpoint where a writer stands as a member of society, when considering aspects of identity and politics.
Groyon is the author of The Sky over Dimas (2003) and On Cursed Ground and Other Stories (2004). He is a recipient of the Manila Critics Circle National Book Award, the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Award for Literature, and the Madrigal-Gonzalez First Book Award.
