Manila Galleon: From Asia to the Americas
Manila Galleon: From Asia to the Americas explores a centuries-long trade that connected Asia to Europe and the Americas. From 1565 to 1815, enormous ships laden with porcelain, silk, ivory, spices, and other goods sailed annually across the Pacific from Manila to Acapulco, returning with millions of pieces of silver to purchase more goods.
This publication accompanies the exhibition of the same name at the Asian Civilisations Museum, Singapore, which runs from 16 November 2023 to 17 March 2024. Introductory essays highlighting 30 objects reveal how people, goods, and ideas circulating through Mexico and the Philippines created a distinctive cultural and artistic heritage that was shared across oceans.
