Stuart A. Schlegel's Wisdom from a Rainforest is a personal reflection on the Teduray, a small community of hunter-gatherers and subsistence farmers who lived along the Dakel Teran River in Cotabato, Mindanao. Egalitarian and peaceful, the Teduray lived in harmony with nature and its spirits. They were tragically massacred by outlaws during the ethnic conflicts in the early 1970s. More than just an anthropological report of his experience in the field, Schlegel's account discusses the Teduray culture and worldview from a humanistic perspective, weaving in moments of his own spiritual and social awakening.
