Philippine National Artist Series: Carlos "Botong" Francisco
Part of the Philippine National Artists Series, this artist monograph by Reuben Ramas Cañete focuses on the life and career of Carlos “Botong” V. Francisco. Botong was a muralist from Angono, Rizal who formed one third of the Triumvirate of Filipino modern art alongside Victorio Edades and Galo Ocampo.
In this chronological account, Cañete starts with Botong’s family and education at University of the Philippines, moving to his involvement with the Triumvirate, then his activities during and after the war. He also dedicates sections to Botong’s murals and ateliers. He ends this book with a chapter on Botong’s influence on Atanacio “Tam” Peñaranda Austria, who considers the National Artist as his mentor.
This book also includes a foreword by F. Sionil Jose.
