Pangasinan, 1901-1986: A Political, Socioeconomic and Cultural History
Rosario Mendoza Cortes reconstructs Pangasinan's twentieth century history in the final volume of the author's trilogy on the history of the province. She documents the period in sixteen chapters grouped into two parts: Pangasinan's Response to American Rule, 1901-1945 and The Role of Pangasinan in Building the Republic. Cortes also presents local histories that challenge common themes on Philippine national history, including a Pangasinense elite "with a social conscience" that subverts the narrative of the collaboration of Filipino elite which facilitated the country's acceptance of American rule.
