J. Elizalde Navarro
A monograph on the life and work of National Artist Jerry Elizalde Navarro (1924 - 1999) by Cid Reyes. Navarro was a prolific artist known for his wood sculptures, assemblages and mixed media paintings. He studied painting at the University of the Philippines School of Fine Arts and at the University of Santo Tomas where he graduated in 1951. His first solo exhibition was held at the Philippine Art Gallery in 1954. He represented the Philippines at the Sao Paulo Biennale in Brazil in 1967 and participated in several international exhibitions. He held numerous solo exhibitions in Manila including a retrospective of his work at the Metropolitan Museum in 1995. He was given the National Artist Award for Painting in 1999.
