A Voice of Hope in a Time of Darkness
Part of the Modern Heroes for the Filipino Youth series, A Voice of Hope in a Time of Darkness tells the story of singer and activist Susan Fernandez-Magno (1956-2009). Known as the "voice of protest of a generation", she first gained prominence as a performer during anti-Marcos rallies during the Martial Law years. She was famous for her rendition of the feminist anthem Babae Ka, which was included in her 1990 album Habi at Himig, a collection of songs expressing her nationalist and militant sentiment and unwavering commitment to the Filipino women's movement.
