The Struggle for Philippine Art
The Struggle for Philippine Art chronicles the history of the Art Association of the Philippines (AAP), which was founded in 1948 by Purita Kalaw-Ledesma, one of the most important figures in Philippine art, particularly during the postwar period. Written by Kalaw-Ledesma and Amadis Ma. Guerrero, the book narrates the struggle of modern art in the Philippines amidst the historical, socio-political, and cultural developments in the country from the 1940s to early 70s.
Features works by the Thirteen Moderns and other leading Filipino artists of the period. Photographs of AAP exhibitions, lists of AAP Award winners, as well as an index of AAP members from 1948 - 1973 are also included.
