Juan Luna Drawings: Paris Period
Juan Luna Drawings: Paris Period from the Collection of Dr. Eleuterio M. Pascual focuses on Luna's most prolific period, the Belle Epoque of Paris (1884-1893). This book written by Jun Terra includes more than 300 drawings, most of which are sketches in notebooks from the collection of Dr Pascual, said to be the single biggest private collector of Juan Luna's works. Many of the drawings are also studies of major characters and scenes in Luna's paintings. The book also includes notes on Parisian life, costumes and models during Luna's time.
Luna (1857-1899) was one of the first Filipino artists to gain international recognition when he won the first prize in the National Exposition of Fine Arts in Madrid in 1884 for his painting 'Spolarium'. He is known for his academic style of painting featuring monumental, historical and mythical subjects favored by official art salons in the 19th century.
