Born in the Philippines and based in Mexico, Olbes is known for his sculptures and furniture made of wood, stone, coral, shell and other natural materials. His Anito series "calls to mind the primeval sculpture of Southeast Asia and Mexico. They are both ceremonial visage as well as inscrutable ciphers, the Dark of Death and the Face of Life."
