Science Fiction: Filipino Fiction for Young Adults
Science Fiction is a subgenre of speculative fiction. Dear Francis Alfar, one of the editors of this book, is considered the father of Filipino speculative fiction. According to Victor Fernando R. Ocampo, one of the authors included in this anthology who has extensively researched the history of science fiction in the Philippines (Part 1, Part 2), one of the earliest books of this subgenre is Doctor Satan, a 48-page Tagalog novel by Mateo Cruz Cornelio, published in 1945. This book, edited by Dean Francis Alfar and Kenneth Yu, presents the stories of Kim Sarabia, Kate Osias, CP Coulter, Lakan Umali, Nikki Alfar, Eliza Victoria, Raymund P. Reyes, Gabriela Lee, Daniel Carlos Tan, and Victor Fernando R. Ocampo to give young readers a taste of science fiction today.
Let's dream of the future.
