Jose Garcia Villa: Selected Poems and New

Regular price ₱500.00

Jose Garcia Villa has written some of the most beautiful lyric poetry of our time. Unconcerned with dry celebrations, his genius expresses itself in fiery spiritual outbursts. One will not find the despair which has marked so much of modern poetry here. Rather there is a strong mystical strain; some of these poems are fine examples of a neglected genre; religious poetry. Villa has chosen for this collection the best of his poems from Have Come, Am Here, his first book of poetry, and Volume Two, and added his new work notably “The Anchored Angel,” featured as the lead poem in London Times Literary Supplement on American Writing a few years back. He has also added a group of early poems which make their first appearance here. Of special interest will be his new experiment, the Adaptations, for which he writes and explicative note. The Adaptations are conversions of prose into poetry-into poetic constructions with line movement, focus and shape. Jose Garcia Villa has been the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, and American Academy of Arts and Letters award, and a Bollingen Fellowship. His first two volumes of poetry have won him the high esteem of distinguished fellow poets and critics, among them Dame Edith Sitwell, who contributes the introduction to this book.
