The Philippine Inquisition investigated and readied for prosecution or reconciliation the following cases: (1) Protestantism; (2) secret Jewry and Judaizing; (3) Masonry; (4) secret practice of Islam (moriscos); (5) other non-Catholic groups (Armenians, etc.);(6) Illuminism, Jansenism, and like heresies; (7) heretical propositions by Catholic laity; (8) blasphemy; (9) denial of God (reniegos); (10) apostasy by renegades; (11) dissemination and use of prohibited literature; (12) witchcraft, sorcery, superstition, astrology, palmistry, and fortune-telling; (13) clerical offenses (usurpation of orders, sexual immorality, etc.); (14) bigamy and concubinage; and (15) contempt of court (disobedience to and disrespect for the Holy Office, impersonation of inquisitorial officer, etc.)

Fernando Palanco has a degree in teaching and a doctorate in history. As a teacher, he began his professional journey in various rural schools in the province of Soria and concluded it at the Ramiro de Maeztu Institute in Madrid. As a researcher, he specialized in modern Philippine history.
