Brocka: The Filmmaker Without Fear
Part of the Modern Heroes for the Filipino Youth series, Brocka: The Filmmaker Without Fear tells the story of National Artist for Film Lino Brocka (1939-1991). Regarded as one of the most influential and significant filmmakers in the history Philippine cinema, Brocka directed several landmark films including,Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang (1974), Maynila sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag (1975), Insiang (1976), Bayan Ko: Kapit sa Patalim (1984), and Orapronobis (1989). His films addressed poverty, injustice, homosexuality, and other issues confronting the country during the Martial Law years. A known activist, he also founded the Concerned Artists of the Philippines (CAP) and was given the Ramon Magsaysay Award for "making cinema a vital social commentary."
