The Initial Encounter by T. Valentino Sitoy Jr. is the first of three books on the history of Christianity in the Philippines. While the very first such encounter took place in 1521, resulting in the precipitate baptism of the people of Cebu, the real beginning of evangelization came in 1565. This first volume takes up the subject up to 1590, covering the first quarter century of missionary efforts.
