The Culture of the Bontoc Igorot
Carmencita Cawed's The Culture of the Bontoc Igorot is a 'humble contribution to the national effort to write about Bontoc society from the point of view of a native'. Belonging to a prominent Bontoc family, the author belongs to a generation of Philippine scholars who are knowledgeable and deeply rooted to their cultural values and traditions making headway in a field traditionally dominated by American and European anthropologists. Her study of the Bontocs provides a brief history and and overview of the region and its people. It also covers social organizations and customs, including rituals and festivities, traditional medicine, tribal feuds, and other aspects of Bontoc culture.
