The 1980 Mobil Art Awards
This book documents what its author, Alice Guillermo, calls a "first-of-a-kind" event - the 1980 Mobil Art Awards for distinguished achievement in painting. It was participated in by sixty-three painters of various artistic persuasions who make up a veritable Who's Who in Philippine art. Nominated by art associations, galleries, and art collectors from all over the country, the participating artists were judged on the basis of works done within the previous five years. Mrs. Guillermo, one of the country's leading art critics and a member of the Mobil Art Awards jury, describes the criteria by which the finalists were chosen in her informative introductory essay. Heading her select list are the 1980 Mobil Art Awardee, Danilo Dalena, and the four finalists: Ang Kiukok, Jose Joya, Romulo Olazo, and Onib Olmedo.
