An accompanying catalog of an exhibition of works by National Artist for Theater Design Salvador Bernal (1945-2011) at the CCP in 2013, Salvador Bernal Designs the Stage is a comprehensive review of Bernals' various design projects in ballet, opera, theater, and film from the 1970s until the time of his passing in 2011.

Bernal was instrumental in elevating theater and production design as a fine art and a profession. He helped establish the Production Design Center under the CCP's Performing Arts Department which he headed from 1981-1994. He also initiated the founding of the Kapisanan sa Pilipinas ng mga Production Designer or KAPPROD, which later became the Philippine Association of Theater Designers and Technicians (PATDAT).
