Pierre Verger
A collection of photographs by French photographer and self-taught ethnographer Pierre Verger (1902-1996). While he devoted most of his life to the study of the African diaspora, Verger also traveled in Southeast Asia, including three trips to the Philippines in the 1930s. He visited different parts of the country, photographing Manila, the Bontoc region, and the southernmost islands, including Jolo and Tawi-Tawi. His work not only bears ethnographic influence, they also exhibit poetic reflections of daily life.
