Phantoms of Asia: Contemporary Awakens the Past
'Phantoms of Asia' is the accompanying book to the exhibition held at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, USA in 2012. The book contains notes, and descriptions, together with the complete illustrations of the works of all participating artists, including Filipino artists Poklong Anading and Ringo Bunoan. It opens with an extensive essay by Mami Kataoka, the guest curator for the show, regarding the interconnectivity of contemporary works among the region, as well as their connections with Asia’s past traditions. While also gathering contributions from various writers on Asian culture and art, 'Phantoms of Asia' is a timely survey of contemporary Asian art which unveils the new creative spirit that is coming out from the region, and how it is still able to convey the myths from the past.
