Memoirs of Pain
Memoirs of Pain by Gustavo C. Ingles is a chronicle of the author's harrowing experiences as a prisoner of war during World War II. The author was a young cadet at the Philippine Military Academy when the war broke out in the Philippines in 1941. The following year, he joined the guerilla movement with other disbanded cadets. He was captured in 1943 and imprisoned for over a year, before escaping and rejoining the resistance.
The book also includes the only authentic list of war prisoners consigned by the Japanese to the New Bilibid Prison in 1941-1945. It also includes the rare experience of the author being incarcerated in 4 Kempei-Tai garrisons aside from his stay in the Old and New Bilibid Prisons.
