Mañosa Beyond Architecture
This book tells the story of the life and works of National Artist for Architecture Francisco Mañosa within the framework of six central themes.
Spanning more than half a century, his creative practice was intertwined with social entrepreneurship, religious responsibility, patriotism, philanthropy, jazz music, and toy craft. His story is guided by a compelling, uncompromising mantra: "I design Filipino, nothing else." His body of work has stirred and moved a generation of architects and has become a cornerstone, pillar, and pinnacle of Philippine neovernacular architecture.
Francisco Mañosa (1931-2013) is considered as one of the most influential Filipino architects of the 20th century. Committed to creating a Filipino identity in architecture, he combined traditional forms and indigenous materials with modern building techniques suited to the tropical climate of the Philippines. He was given the National Artist Award for Architecture in 2018.
