Betrayals of the Public Trust
Edited by Sheila S. Coronel, this compilation of investigative reports were written between 1990 and 2000, a decade that spanned the administrations of three democratically elected presidents in the Philippines: Corazon Aquino, Fidel Ramos and Joseph Estrada. During that period, the integrity of democratic institutions was challenged by charges of corruption and malfeasance. The book shows the range of corruption that can be found in various areas of governance: from high-level political corruption in Malacanang and Congress to low-level corruption in local governments. In addition to the reports, the book also provides information on the methodologies and techniques used in the process, how the stories are developed, as well as the impact of the reports.
