Anita Magsaysay-Ho: In Praise of Women
A monograph on the life and work of Anita Magsaysay-Ho (1914-2012) by Alfredo Roces. One of the Philippines' first modernist artists, Magsaysay-Ho has created a distinct body of work, with women as her foremost subject. She first studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines under classical painters Fernando Amorsolo and Fabian dela Rosa and took further studies at the Cranbrook Art Academy at the University of Michigan in the USA, where she developed a modernist perspective, becoming the only woman in the group of the Thirteen Moderns led by Victorio Edades. This book includes over 300 images of works by Magsaysay-Ho, some of which are annotated by the artist herself, providing additional insight on the technique and subject of the works.
