A Guide to Gingers of Sorsogon

Regular price ₱475.00

This guidebook by Rudolph Valentino A. Docot features 33 Zingiberaceae (ginger) species in the Philippines. This pioneering work focuses on the province of Sorsogon where nearly 30% of the Philippine gingers are found and are endemic to the province.

Each of the ginger species featured in the book is accompanied by diagnostic characters, colorful photographs and illustrations, short descriptions, distribution, etymology, and useful information such as notes on their habitats, local names, and economic use.

While the focal point is Sorsogon, this guidebook transcends geographical boundaries, offering invaluable insights for botanists, students, and enthusiasts alike. It also includes general topics about ginger such as the basic structure of the ginger plant, economically important Philippine gingers, and the taxonomic history of the family in the country.

Rudolph Valentino A. Docot is currently working as an assistant professor and researcher at FEU. With the credit of describing 12 ginger species in the Philippines, he has also contributed to ginger conservation through assessments published in the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
