Chronicles & Dispatches is the last compilation of the works of Alfredo N. Salanga. The book dives into diverse topics, from reflections on literature and society, to notes on the Philippine press before and after Martial Law and a year after the Aquino assassination.
Other subjects include the church and state in the Philippines, the impact of Thomasites and colonialism, and the origins of barangay governance. Salanga also wrote the biographies of Santiago Fonacier, Teofilo Gensoli, and Elias Dacudao.
Alfredo “Freddie” Navarro Salanga (1948-1988) was a Filipino literary critic, columnist, and poet. He completed his Bachelor of Arts in Humanities at Ateneo de Manila University in 1969. Salanga received the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature in 1980 and 1983 to 1985.
