Casanave
Casanave: An American Photographer in Iloilo by Nereo Cajiling Lujan presents more than 130 photographs by Pedro Andres Casanave, an American artist and photographer who came to the Philippines in 1899 as a recruit of the 29th US Regiment to fight in the Spanish-American War. After the war, he stayed in the country and opened a photography studio in Iloilo in 1905. Highlighted in this book are his photographs of structures and landscapes reflective of the quaint charm and idyllic atmosphere of Iloilo. They also allude to the vibrant and storied past of Iloilo under Spanish colonial rule particularly with the sugar industry that boomed in the mid 1800s, attracting traders from Europe and the Americas.
