Memory of Dances
With text by Sheila Coronel and photographs by Sonny Yabao, this book tells the story of four indigenous communities in the Philippines: the Tagbanua of Coron, Palawan, the Bugkalot and Igorot of Nueva Vizcaya, and the Manobo of Mt. Apo. All facing challenges from intrusions of the market and the state, these impoverished communities struggle to maintain their land and culture, and change the course of history that confines them. The memory of dances breathes life and hope into these communities that are on the edge of disintegration and despair.
